The jurisdiction of the Orphans' Court Division is set forth in Section 711 of the Probate, Estates and Fiduciaries Code, 20 Pa.C.S.A. Section 711. The cases that are heard in the Orphans' Court Division include all matters involving decedent's estates, trusts, wills, guardians of the persons and estates of minors, guardians of the persons and estates of incapacitated persons, powers of attorney, termination of parental rights and adoptions, civil commitments, marriage licenses, nonprofit associations and corporations, and inheritance and estate tax matters.

Most matters in the Orphans' Court Division are heard nonjury by the judges assigned to the division. The judges currently assigned to the division are Administrative Judge Frank J. Lucchino, Judges Robert A. Kelly, Lee J. Mazur and Lawrence J. O'Toole.
